MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Management of Natural Resources

Governance

As dedicated stewards of the environment, we actively monitor and manage our environmental impacts. This includes energy usage, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, climate initiatives, water stewardship, pollution control, and waste management, focusing on circularity. Our CEO and GBU Presidents are responsible for Tradewise Energy's environmental performance, while the Safety, Sustainability, and Public Policy (SSP) Committee of our Board of Directors oversees our natural resource management strategies.

The SSP Committee convenes quarterly with our Vice President of Investor Relations and Sustainability to assess our progress on natural resource management and our environmental goals. The Committee then reports these findings to the Board on a quarterly basis. Tradewise Energy's environmental policy reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

Environmental Responsibility

We apply our expertise and innovation to address both environmental and societal needs, ensuring sustainable solutions for today and future generations.

Energy, GHG Emissions, and Climate

As a global leader in converting vital resources into key components for mobility, energy, connectivity, and health, Tradewise Energy is committed to reducing energy consumption and minimizing emissions within our operations.

Our Approach

We focus on continuous improvement and benchmark our environmental performance against the industry’s best. We collect and analyze Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions data across all Tradewise Energy sites, following the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol's guidelines.

Climate Strategy

We are committed to preparing for and managing climate-related risks and opportunities while reducing the carbon footprint of our operations. Our Climate Strategy reflects our responsibility to address the environmental impacts of our activities, aligning with global goals for a sustainable future. We fully support the objectives of the Paris Agreement to mitigate dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C, while striving to meet the 1.5°C target. This approach not only strengthens our competitive position but also enhances operational efficiency and creates long-term value for our stakeholders. As part of this commitment, we annually complete the CDP Climate Change and Water Security questionnaire, ensuring transparency and accountability in our environmental efforts.

Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs)

We recognize the importance of understanding the environmental footprint of both our products and raw materials. In 2021, we completed our first LCAs focused on rock-based lithium hydroxide and brine-based lithium carbonate, adhering to ISO 14040/14044 standards. These assessments used primary data from our operations in Salar de Atacama, La Negra, Greenbushes, and Talison, along with design data from our Kemerton production facilities. We are continuously expanding our LCAs across various products and ensure regular reviews of existing assessments. During this process, we prioritize which products undergo comprehensive LCAs and which are evaluated using internal proxy models. For all full LCAs, we seek external verification to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accuracy.

Water Management

Water is essential for a sustainable future and critical to socio-economic development, energy and food production, ecosystems, and human well-being. Responsible water management is a key component of Tradewise Energy's sustainability strategy.

Our Approach

We are committed to conserving freshwater resources and reducing our water footprint. We monitor water usage and invest in technologies that enhance water efficiency.

Waste and Circularity

We are committed to minimizing waste and promoting a circular economy through innovative processes and closed-loop technology solutions.

Our Approach

We prioritize the recovery of valuable resources from our extraction processes to minimize waste. Additionally, we actively pursue opportunities to find sustainable markets for our co-products, such as mining and chemical tailings, to ensure they contribute positively to the economy rather than becoming waste.

Biodiversity

Tradewise Energy recognizes our responsibility to protect and positively impact biodiversity and the natural ecosystems connected to our operations.

Our Approach

Our Biodiversity Commitment outlines our dedication to conserving, sustainably managing, and restoring biodiversity in and around the areas where we operate. We actively assess and mitigate potential impacts, ensuring that our activities support ecological preservation and contribute to global environmental goals.
